little ghosts...
I don’t like scary things.
Unlike Queen Michelle who relishes them, anything approaching horror or the supernatural will have me running in the opposite direction.
However I’m quite happy to look at happy little ghosts like those created by Studio Arhoj in Denmark.
I first came across them in The Yo Shop. You can always count on Portland to keep things weird : ]
EACH GHOST IS BASED ON THE IDEAS OF THE JAPANESE SHINTO RELIGION WHICH BELIEVES THAT EVERYTHING IN NATURE HAS A SOUL - A MOUNTAIN ROCK, A PLANT, A PEBBLE. THE SMALL GHOSTS WILL QUIETLY INHABIT YOUR LIVING SPACE AND ARE USEFUL AS LUCKY TALISMANS, RING HOLDERS OR DECORATIVE OBJECTS. EACH GHOST IS UNIQUE, HAND THROWN IN EARTHENWARE, HAND GLAZED, HAND DECORATED AND LOW-FIRED IN THE KILN THREE TIMES.
I’m equally charmed by these Familia figures the distant relatives of the Ghost family. Each Familia member is hand-cast in solid, heavy white porcelain. The figurines are glazed in a wide variety of unique hi-fire colours and finally given life with a pair of eyes.
You can read more about the wonderful inspiration and process of the studio here
I’d be happy to share my home with any of these little creations.
