crowning glory...

Noy Alon

What a wonderful name. So lyrical, it just rolls off the tongue. Her name reflects her wonderful work. I am seriously coveting one of her crown rings above.

Noy Alon is a jewelry designer, goldsmith & artist with a Bachelor of Design and a Masters degree student at Shenkar college of design, engineering and art. A love and curiosity for colour, shape & details have brought her to the world of jewelry. At the base of the design is the idea that a piece of jewelry is a functional work of art, which contains emotions, thoughts, inspiration & memories. Noy loves to create conceptual, contemporary & unique jewelry that are hand made  one of a kind work.

At first glance I thought the work was made of concrete but it is actually polymer and brass.  Processing the material covering the metal structure allows obtaining new qualities by erosion and thinning down to the amalgamation of the two materials into one piece.

The Metal structure emerging out of the material, marks and highlights it as a construction, function and composition. The mass, size and ratio of body and jewelry raises the question of what is the boundary between jewelry and objects. The creation and process of the jewelry collection speaks of internal time period, the changes and transitions are expressed through quiet subtle nuance in the material and in the monochromatic colors.
