Garwood and Gourds...

It will come as no surprise when I tell you, I have never eaten a gourd.

In fact I’m not even sure if you can.But putting that to one side for a minute, the minute I looked at the glorious hand thrown stoneware by Kate Garwood I instantly thought of gourds.

I think it’s the colours and the shapes but either way her work is simply delicious.

It’s almost to total opposite of the candy glass I shared earlier in the week. This is earthy and robust work brought to live with organic shapes and all the colours of nature…

Kate is a studio potter based in south Oxfordshire near Henley-on-Thames.  She works with stoneware creating wheel-thrown ceramics that are both beautiful and functional.  Although Kate uses many traditional oriental  glazes she interplay’s these with bright slips and sgraffito decoration. Her work is distinctive in that there is always a part of the pot that is left raw revealing the natural beauty of the clay.

If you fancy treating yourself to a new jug, bowl or mug, take a wee prowl around her lovely online shop.
