Take me to the candy store...

It would seem I am still in the grip of glass over here.

After going down a rabbit hole looking at vintage glass perfume bottles as a result of lusting over those Dries Van Noten bottles I found myself devouring both series of Blown Away. A show on Netflix about glass blowers.

I understand that it may not sound the most gripping thing on the planet but trust me when I say you really will be blown away. The creativity and the physicality of it are stunning.

All this looking at glass then led me to the ‘candy’ work of Helle Mardahl

Holy crap her work is delicious. Pricey but utterly utterly scrumptious. You almost want to bite right into it ( although I know that would be a very bad idea )

Her lovely website shows the process behind of creating their candy objects. .

Using the ancient technique of mouth-blowing, each object has its own unique shape and personality. Each design and every part of the collection is made by hand with precision and care – from glass to brass details to assembly of the lamp. Countless individual steps are required for every single product before being ready. Every piece is a one-off and signed by Helle Mardahl herself.

Her work is all available from the online shop they call The Candy Store.

A virtual space created to stimulate your eyes and your taste buds where they invite you to dive into their colourful collection of sugary sweets made of glossy glass. Each of the colours from their collection represents a taste; a freshly picked cherry, a pink bubblegum and the first plum of the season. Each of the unique candy objects are handmade with love and care.

Helle Mardahl Studio operates at the intersection of art and functionality to create a dreamy universe of richly coloured glass designs of eccentric deviance. Influenced by nostalgic memories from childhood and iconic films such as Alice in Wonderland and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, the collection of glossy glass creates a conceptual candy universe of magic, dreams and indulgence.

I know it would be very wrong to lick a light fitting but just look at these beauties above and tell me you wouldn’t be tempted…
