Comfortably Neutral

I had planned on posting more everyday style outfits over on Instagram but the weather here is making that nearly impossible to do with any regularity. Since I only do one outfit post a week, it's important to show those outfits that are less involved than you normally see from me. For that reason I thought I'd share this outfit I wore last week to go to Edinburgh to judge the i-on Magazine Breakthrough Awards. It was an outfit that was born primarily for comfort since I had quite a lot of walking to do too and from the venue, as well as sitting for many hours at a time listening to the finalist's presentations.

Neutrals don't excite me generally speaking, so when I do wear them the silhouette has to make up for the less than stimulating palette. So I dug out this jacket I made last year to team with my draped Rick Owens dress, some leather trousers and hopefully transformed a bland palette into something more exciting with shape.

I also wanted to talk a little about the i-on awards. I was asked to sit on a judging panel to help choose the best Scottish newcomers in various creative categories such as design, art & culture, online influencers and food & drink etc. It was such an honour to be asked because the other judges are giants in their respective fields - Anna Freemantle, the international model and Director of the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival; Famous chef Martin Wishart; Richard McLelland who is the co founder of the Drygate Brewery and William Bros Brewing Co; Michael Laing OBE, who owns Laing Jewellers; menswear design Kestin Hare,  Sarah Murray, the owner of the BEST shop in Edinburgh, Jane Davidson and, er, me! So needless to say I was chuffed to be included in this impressive lineup of judges.

Judging the finalists was so hard. I felt incredibly guilty only being able to chose one winner from each category as everyone deserved to win. It was so tough. But now it's done I can't wait for the winners to be announced in September.

Well done to all the finalists!
