Leather & Lace

Leather & Lace Forever

If I were to take you back to 2008, you would see a baby Queen Michelle wearing almost this exact outfit. No matter how many years pass, lace and leather is a combination I will love for a lifetime. I may go through many colour, ruffles or print phases but, at some point, I will always come back to this, one of my all-time favourite pairings.

The real star of the show however is this stunning bag by Scottish designer, Brenda MacLeod. Now that I'm self employed, I have to attend more meetings than ever and carrying my sketchbook, iPad and diary around in a old denim tote is no longer an option. When Brenda asked to send me one of her creations, I knew it was an opportunity to get my all important sketchbook into a far more fitting, grown up bag.

The Details

Sister Jane dress; Antonio Marras jacket; Brenda MacLeod bag; Topshop Unique leather trousers; Isabel Marant boots; Le Specs sunglasses

I choose the Joan tote because of the studded detail, which lends it a cool mix of lady-like and badass. It's the kind of bag the demure Janet Leigh would stuff all that stolen money into, in the film Pyscho. Or perhaps some lady villain would reach into it and pull out a fully loaded Beretta instead of a hanky.

I now use it every single day, not just for meetings, because it's roomy and really quite light. This is the Joan in black but it's a dark grey rather than a true black which makes it the perfect companion to my very old Antonio Marras coat and grey Topshop Unique leather leggings.
