The Nowhere Girl

Photography: Prince B / Styling & Art Direction: Queen Michelle

Scotland in winter is like no other place. Wild and untamed, the icy wind winding round the mountains bites at your fingers and toes like hallows looking for a warm soul.

Prince B had organised a trip to Argyll & Bute, where you'll find the famous Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Naturally I hijacked the trip to squeeze in an outfit shoot I'd wanted to do for the longest time. This French Connection sequined gown has been in my closet for years

and it's never anything I'd wear to an actual event, however wearing it with my fave vintage wool Bally jacket and a pair of wellies, well, that's a bit more like it. In fact, traipsing through the long grass in my wellies, woolly hat and sequin gown I've never felt more like me.

Long after the photos were done, we continued to hike around the foot of the mountains, me not even bothering to hike up my sequins when we passed through the rivers and burns.

Excerpt of 'To a Highland Girl' BY William Wordsworth

Sweet Highland Girl, a very shower
Of beauty is thy earthly dower!
Twice seven consenting years have shed
Their utmost bounty on thy head:
And these grey rocks; that household lawn;
Those trees, a veil just half withdrawn;
This fall of water that doth make
A murmur near the silent lake;
This little bay; a quiet road
That holds in shelter thy Abode—
In truth together do ye seem

Like something fashioned in a dream;
Such Forms as from their covert peep
When earthly cares are laid asleep!
But, O fair Creature! in the light
Of common day, so heavenly bright,
I bless Thee, Vision as thou art,
I bless thee with a human heart;
God shield thee to thy latest years!
Thee, neither know I, nor thy peers;
And yet my eyes are filled with tears.
