Scottish Ballet Blogger Event

Schmooz You Loose

Any company who has ever tried to get Queen Marie and I to attend an event will know how very hard it is. We just don’t do schmoozing. Young bloggers might go to the opening of an envelope, but your grannies here most definitely will not.

However, every year Scottish Ballet do a little blogger event on Doors Open day and every year I attend, camera in hand. I love their events. With only a handful in attendance, there is no pressure to indulge in small talk and I never tire of walking around Tramway and seeing their beautiful studios.

We got a visit to the costume department to see the costumes for Elsa Canasta and Motion Displacement. The dresses for Elsa feature subtle drape and grey ombre. The cut also reminded me of Rodarte. It's always really interesting getting to see the costumes up close as it's fascinating seeing how they are made.

Part of our tour was a visit to the shoe room, ie, heaven. I could live in here! So many pointe shoes! We were also treated to a lovely lunch and a Q&A with Constance Devernay and Thomas Edwards. Q&A’s can be painfully awkward but not with these two! They were fun and delightfully chatty, furnishing us with wonderful stories about their adventures in rehearsals and pointe shoe problems. People are generally too shy to ask questions, so it was Christina and Carrie from the Communications team who kept it going, but it was great fun.

The highlight for me was getting to sit in rehearsals for Elsa. It was glorious! Watching your fave dancers up close is just joyful. Sophie Martin is a little spitfire and Eve Mutso’s rage of emotions never fails to impress me. The dancers also seem to have lots of fun in rehearsals because everywhere you look there was smiling faces.

I can't wait until next years Blogger Event!
